Waitangi Day is New Zealand's national day, observed on 6 February, commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 between the British Crown and Māori chiefs. It is a public holiday marked by national ceremonies at Waitangi and across the country, as well as cultural events celebrating the unique partnership and bicultural heritage of New Zealand.
